About the animal arrow puzzles

Animals are the richest pictures in the game, which makes their boards some of the busiest: a spider's eight legs, a butterfly's mirrored wings and a dinosaur's long neck and tail all become lanes you have to untangle in order.

The cat — pointed ears, curled tail — is the single most popular shape players collect, and a fitting centrepiece for the set.

With 28 creatures, animals are the largest and most-loved set in the book, and the busiest boards too. A spider's eight legs, a butterfly's mirrored wings, an octopus's dangling arms and a dinosaur's long neck and tail all become lanes you have to untangle in order.

The trick with most animals is to peel the outer limbs first — legs, ears, tails and antennae tend to have the clearest paths to the edge — and save the dense body for last, once the outline has been freed.

The set runs from cosy favourites like the cat, dog and bear to a creepy-crawly Halloween crew of bat, spider, snake and ghost, plus big beasts like the elephant. Each animal has its own page and is saved to your Shape Book the first time you clear it.

How to play animal arrow puzzles

  1. Each arrow-line ends in a head that points the one way it can leave the board.
  2. Tap a line whose straight path to the edge is completely clear — the whole line slides off.
  3. Every line that leaves opens a lane for the ones trapped behind it, so the order you choose is the real puzzle.
  4. Tapping a blocked line bumps it and costs a heart, so read the lanes before you tap. Clear them all to win.
